Hany Massarany
President & Chief Executive Officer
Mr. Massarany was appointed President and Chief Executive Officer and Director of GenMark Diagnostics, Inc. in May 2011. From February 2009 to April 2011, Mr. Massarany served as President of Ventana Medical Systems and Head of Roche Tissue Diagnostics. From 1999 to 2009, he held various global leadership positions with Ventana, including Chief Operating Officer, Executive Vice President Worldwide Operations, Senior Vice President Corporate Strategy and Development, and Vice President North American Commercial Operations. Prior to Ventana, Mr. Massarany held executive management positions with Bayer Diagnostics and Chiron Diagnostics, working in both Asia Pacific and the United States. Mr. Massarany received a B.S. degree in Microbiology and Immunology from Monash University, Australia and an M.B.A. from Melbourne University, Australia.
Paul Ross
Chief Financial Officer
Mr. Ross was appointed Chief Financial Officer of GenMark Diagnostics, Inc. in April 2011. Mr. Ross previously served as Chief Financial Officer of Teledata Technology Solutions, Inc., a global provider of information technology consulting services, from October 2009 to March 2011. From March 2007 to April 2009, Mr. Ross served as Senior Vice President - Finance and Chief Financial Officer of Meade Instruments Corp., a Nasdaq-listed multinational consumer optics company. Mr. Ross also previously served as the Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer of Power-One, Inc., a Nasdaq-listed manufacturer of power supply products for use in communication, semiconductor testing, medical, industrial and other electronic instruments, from May 2005 to March 2007. From April 2001 to May 2005, Mr. Ross held various positions with Power-One including Vice President of Finance and Corporate Controller, Director of Corporate Finance, and Manager of Financial Planning and Reporting. From December 1998 to April 2001, Mr. Ross was the senior financial analyst of the external reporting group with BP/Atlantic Richfield Company (ARCO). From September 1996 to December 1998, Mr. Ross was an audit associate and then senior audit associate with PriceWaterhouseCoopers LLP. Mr. Ross received his B.A. degree from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) and his M.B.A. degree from the University of Southern California (USC), and is a Certified Public Accountant.
Jon Faiz Kayyem, Ph.D.
Founder & Chief Scientific Officer
Dr. Kayyem was appointed Chief Scientific Officer of GenMark Diagnostics, Inc. in August 2010. Dr. Kayyem served as President and Chief Executive Officer of GenMark Diagnostics, since May 2010. From August 2009 to May 2010, Dr. Kayyem served as President and Chief Executive Officer of Osmetech plc. and Chairman of the board of directors of Osmetech plc from January 2009 to August 2009. Dr. Kayyem attended Yale University and received a combined M.S. and B.S. in Molecular Biophysics and Biochemistry in 1985. He received his Ph.D. in Molecular Biology in 1991 at The California Institute of Technology ("Caltech"). Dr. Kayyem remained at Caltech as a Senior Research Fellow until 1995, when he founded Clinical Micro Sensors to commercialize technical innovations he developed while at Caltech. In 2000, Clinical Micro Sensors was sold to Motorola, Inc. for approximately $280 million, and subsequently purchased by Osmetech plc in 2005. In 2004, Dr. Kayyem left Clinical Micro Sensors and co-founded the biotechnology fund management company, Efficacy Capital Limited, where he served as managing partner until September 2009.
Joel Centeno
Vice President, Quality, Regulatory, and Clinical Affairs
Mr. Centeno was appointed Vice President, Quality, Regulatory, and Clinical Affairs of GenMark Diagnostics, Inc. in December 2011. He has extensive experience in global regulatory affairs, quality assurance, quality control, and clinical affairs for in vitro diagnostic tests, medical devices, and tissue products. His expertise focuses primarily in the areas of regulatory submissions, product development, quality system design, FDA inspections, and clinical trials. Prior to joining GenMark, Mr. Centeno was the VP of RA/QA at Enigma Diagnostics. Before joining Enigma, he served as Director, RA/QA at Hologic, Inc. where he obtained FDA approval on Cervista HPV and Inplex cystic fibrosis IVD tests. Mr. Centeno's professional career also includes positions at Boston Scientific, Tutogen Medical, and Lucent Technologies. He received his B.S. in Materials Engineering and Metallurgy from the University of Florida in 1999 and is currently working toward a M.S. in Quality Assurance from the Southern Polytechnic State University. Joel is a Six Sigma greenbelt.
Matthew R. Cohen
Senior Vice President, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary
Mr. Cohen was appointed Senior Vice President, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary of GenMark Diagnostics, Inc. in November 2011. From January 2005 until November 2011, he was a member of the legal department of Genentech, Inc., most recently serving as Associate General Counsel and practice group lead of Genentech's business development and alliance management functions. During Mr. Cohen's time at Genentech, he also oversaw legal support of Genentech's Corporate Information Technology organization and research contracting group. Prior to joining Genentech, he was a Special Counsel in the Sydney, Australia office of Minter Ellison, and an associate with the law firms Kirkland & Ellis in New York, N.Y. and Foley & Lardner in Washington, D.C. Mr. Cohen is a registered patent attorney with the United States Patent and Trademark Office, and in 1997 was a fellow of the Max-Planck-Institute for Foreign and International Patent, Copyright and Competition Law in Munich, Germany. Mr. Cohen received his B.S. in Chemistry from Emory University and J.D. from the George Washington School of Law.
Michael Gleeson
Vice President, U.S. Sales
Mr. Gleeson was appointed Vice President, U.S. Sales of GenMark Diagnostics, Inc. in November 2010. Mr. Gleeson served as National Sales Director for GenMark Diagnostics since May 2010 and in the same capacity for Osmetech Technology, Inc, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Osmetech plc, since November 2009. Prior to joining GenMark, Mr. Gleeson held Director & Senior Sales Executive roles with both public and privately held companies in the enterprise software and services sector, including Sybase, Inc, GuardianEdge Technologies, Inc, BEA Systems and Cap Gemini Ernst & Young. Mr. Gleeson has spent the last 14 years managing direct global sales, OEM and channel sales, and has cultivated Fortune Global 500 customer relationships and major strategic alliances. During his tenure with GuardianEdge Technologies, and prior to its acquisition by Symantec, Mr. Gleeson established the financial services vertical and delivered record revenues by providing endpoint data protection solutions for leading investment banking and securities firms. Mr. Gleeson holds a B.S. degree in Entrepreneurial Studies from Babson College in Massachusetts.
Jeff Hawkins
Senior Vice President, Marketing and Business Development
Mr. Hawkins was appointed Senior Vice President, Business Development of GenMark Diagnostics, Inc. in November 2010. Mr. Hawkins served as Vice President of Business Development from May 2010 to November 2010, and in the same capacity for Osmetech Technology, Inc, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Osmetech plc, since December 2009. From July 2008 to December 2009, Mr. Hawkins was Executive Director of Laboratory Marketing for Hologic, Inc., a developer, manufacturer, and supplier of medical imaging systems and diagnostic and surgical products. From November 2006 until its acquisition by Hologic in June 2008, Mr. Hawkins served as Executive Director of Marketing at Third Wave Technologies Inc., a provider of DNA and RNA analysis products for clinical, research and agricultural customers. Prior to Third Wave, Mr. Hawkins held various positions of increasing responsibility in the areas of Marketing, Product Development, and Operations for Sysmex America and Abbott Laboratories. Mr. Hawkins is currently a member of the board of directors for Ohmx Coporation, a bioelectronic detection company developing a monitoring device to be used in all point-of-care (POC) settings. Mr. Hawkins received a B.A. degree in Chemistry with honors from Concordia University and an M.B.A. from Keller Graduate School of Management.
Sue Pierce
Vice President, Development
Ms. Pierce was appointed Vice President, Development of GenMark Diagnostics, Inc. in April 2011. Prior to joining GenMark, Ms. Pierce was Vice President of the Project Management Office at Ventana Medical Systems, a member of the Roche Group. Ms. Pierce has over 25 years of product development experience in the IVD industry. From 1999 until 2011 she held various technical management positions at Ventana including Senior Director of System Integration and Product Technical Support, Director of Project Management and multiple program management positions for system, molecular and imaging IVD products. Ms. Pierce was with Abbott Laboratories from 1985 to 1999 in management and scientific roles for immunoassay and clinical chemistry IVD product development. She also has experience in R&D, technical support and manufacturing in the fibers industry. Ms. Pierce received her B.S. degree in Chemistry and her M.S. degree in Analytical Chemistry from Oklahoma State University.
Jennifer Williams
Senior Vice President, Global Operations
Ms. Williams joined GenMark Diagnostics, Inc. in May 2010 and was appointed Senior Vice President of Global Operations in November 2010, responsible for Manufacturing Operations, Human Resources, and Asia Pacific Commercial Operations. She has over 16 years of leadership experience in Human Resources, Operations, and Program Management. Ms. Williams was with Cerberus Operations and Advisory Company as a Senior Human Resource Executive from 2008 to 2010, responsible for Human Resources oversight and transformation of global companies in the portfolio. From 2005 to 2008, Ms. Williams was Vice President, Human Resources at HD Supply, a wholesale distribution company serving the infrastructure, construction, and maintenance markets initially as part of the Home Depot organization and subsequently spun off in 2007. Prior to 2005, Ms. Williams led Talent Management for the Home Depot including organization design, succession planning, leadership programs, and executive development. Ms. Williams began her career at Honeywell (formerly AlliedSignal) and held positions of increasing responsibility in Quality, Operations, Program Management, and Organization Effectiveness. Jennifer holds an undergraduate degree in Industrial and Operations Engineering from the University of Michigan and an M.B.A. with a concentration in Organization Behavior from Case Western Reserve University. She is certified in Organization Design and is a Six Sigma greenbelt.
