ePlex® Panels
Infectious diseases, such as lower respiratory infections, bloodstream infections that can lead to sepsis, and diarrhea are among the top causes of death worldwide.1,2 These and other infectious diseases can be considered syndromes (a group of symptoms that may not point to a specific causative agent) and may be difficult to diagnose using conventional diagnostic testing methods that look for a single or small number of disease-causing pathogens.
Why use syndromic testing?
At GenMark, we believe the syndromic approach to diagnosis of infectious diseases can result in:
- Better patient outcomes
- More rapid infection control
- Hospital bed management actions
- Improved patient satisfaction
By detecting the most common pathogens that cause disease together on a single rapid test, with a single patient sample, clinicians can prescribe the right therapeutic within hours – rather than days, when compared with conventional testing algorithms.
In some cases, not using a syndromic approach may mean a patient gets treated with an antimicrobial agent unnecessarily, and, as a result, potentially becomes subject to adverse side effects that may be caused by such treatments. Reducing unnecessary treatment of antimicrobials also drives antimicrobial stewardship.
We are committed to addressing the need to improve patient care through the design and development of comprehensive multiplex (or syndromic) panels. Our growing infectious disease panel menu includes:
GenMark is continuously investing in an expanded menu and expects to add new panels to this list in the near future.
